HONOURABLE MENTION

Marie Lourier

Aqua Alta [analogue, 2024]

Marie Lourier, is an art director, photographer and AI artist from Tel Aviv, Israel. She has a diversified portfolio made up with commercial and art projects. She recently returned from Venice, where she experienced the city during the phenomenon of "acqua alta" or high water. This unique event, which sees Venice's iconic landmarks submerged underwater, offered her a transformative perspective of her favorite architectural structures. The sight of these historic buildings partially submerged added a surreal and poignant layer to their beauty, inspiring Lourier to capture their essence through her lens.

Through her evocative compositions, Lourier invites viewers to see Venice from a new perspective, one that underscores the city's vulnerability and timeless charm. Her work serves as a reminder of the delicate balance that Venice maintains with its environment and the ever-present beauty that emerges even in moments of adversity.

Dancho Atanasov

Torre Calatrava Base [photography on aluminium dibond, 152 x 101 cm 2019]

Dancho Atanasov has always been deeply immersed in the arts, beginning with drawing, painting, and playing classical guitar during his primary school years. His introduction to photography came through his uncle, a former skydiver and practicing photographer. His uncle shared his cameras with Atanasov, which he eagerly took to the air club. During the 1980s, while serving as a jet fighter pilot, Atanasov often carried his camera on less complex flights, capturing aerial views despite the limited technical options available at the time.

His career took a significant turn when he worked for four years as the chief editor and photojournalist for a travel magazine. This role was instrumental in refining his perspective and honing his photographic skills. Dancho believes that the best way to communicate with his audience is through the synergy of shapes, colors, light, details, and the choice of point of view. His goal is to achieve harmony and aesthetics in his work.
